RDA Resources and Training

This guide is used by the cataloging department of Mississippi State University for internal RDA training. It includes resources and local policies that will be of interest to the Mississippi Library Partnership.

What is RDA?

  • RDA (Resource Description and Access) is the new cataloging standard that will replace AACR2
  • Began as AACR3 in 2005 until it was renamed and based on the principles of FRBR
  • RDA allows for richer description of all types of content and media
  • RDA Toolkit was developed as a web-based tool and released in 2010 by the Joint Steering Committee for the Development of RDA
  • RDA has been fully implemented by Library of Congress as of March 2013
