VR and PC Gaming Guide

This guide contains our policies and best practices for using the VR and Gaming Studio in the Digital Media Center.

VR and GAMING POLICIES for MaxxSouth Digital Media Center

I. All MSU Libraries Virtual Reality and Gaming Studio (VRGS) services and tools are available to all students, faculty, and staff at Mississippi State University.

II. The MSU Libraries' VR and gaming equipment may be used only for lawful purposes. No one will be permitted to use the Library’s VR equipment to create or view material that is prohibited by United States law or the policies of Mississippi State University.

III. Equipment Use and Damages:

  1. Patron assumes all liability for equipment while gaming in the VRGS. Equipment must be returned in the same condition as it was checked out or the patron will be fined a repair or replacement cost.
  2. Patrons who log in to personal steam accounts are responsible for logging out and protecting personal data. Do not add game modifications (MODS). Any program, game, or files not installed by MSU Libraries’ are subject to removal at any time.

IV. Reservations and Walk-Ins are subject to the following conditions:

  1. All requests for using the VR equipment are subject to approval based on scheduling and availability. The Library reserves the right to refuse any VR equipment requests.
  2. Walk-ins are welcome; however, reservations always take precedence over walk-ins.
  3. Reservations and walk-in visits are limited to three hours unless special permission is granted by the DMC Staff.
  4. No VR sessions may start within 15 minutes of closing.
  5. If a class needs to use the entirety of the VR Studio, there is a possibility that an individual reservation will be canceled, and the patron will be notified. V. The VRGS follows the Mississippi State University's policy on Use of Information Technology Resources. When using MSU Libraries’ technology (computer, TV, etc.), you must adhere to Mississippi State University's policy on Use of Information Technology Resources, including refraining from illegal downloading or sharing of copyrighted materials; using IT resources to harass or threaten others; downloading or displaying obscene or pornographic material; accessing (or attempting to access), altering, interfering with the operation of, damaging, or destroying all or party of any IT resource; using (or attempting to use) someone else's account, password, access code, or other credentials, or electronically impersonating others; commercial advertising or political campaigning.

VI. Patrons are responsible for providing hardware (flash drive, external hard drive, etc.) to use and store personal project information.

VII. Students who violate the rules of the space repeatedly may lose the privilege of using the VR and Gaming Studio. The DMC staff reserves the right to refuse the use of equipment or production of any content at any time.
