National Poetry Month 2024

This guide will provide information on poetry and events for National Poetry Month

Undergrad Poetry Contest

The Mississippi State University Libraries will hold its Fifth Annual Poetry Contest for Undergraduates as a way to celebrate National Poetry Month in April.  Undergraduates are invited to submit a poem by March 20, 2024 through the QR code provided below or through this link, and if you have questions please email KC New at knew@library.msstate.edu.

Winners will be announced on April 15th.  Stay tuned for more details.

We have cash prizes and other awards from Four Way Books, Copper Canyon Press, and Levenger.

Rules for Poetry Contest:

  • Deadline for submissions by March 20, 2024, by 11:59 pm
  • Only undergraduates at Mississippi State University are eligible to enter
  • All poems submitted should be original and unpublished
  • No more than 80 lines in a poem
  • 1 poem per person
  • All entries should be submitted through the 2024 Undergraduate Poetry Contest form.
    • Upload the poem in a Microsoft Word document  (Google Documents or PDFs will not be accepted and disqualified from entry)
    • Upload a signed release form for publication in The Streetcar 

Poems will be judged through a blind process.
