The Mississippi State University Libraries will hold its Fourth Annual Poetry Contest for Undergraduates as a way to celebrate National Poetry Month in April. Undergraduates are invited to submit a poem by March 1, 2023 to the Libraries Poetry Month Committee (poetry@library.msstate.edu). You may also email with any questions.
Winners will be announced on April 3, 2023. Stay tuned for more details.
First Prize:
$100 + Leather wrap journal from Ox & Pine combined with a subscription to The Kenyon Review

Second Prize:
$75 combined with a Leather wrap journal from Ox & Pine and a copy of The Tradition by Jericho Brown from Copper Canyon Press.

Third Prize:
$50 - combined with a collection of poetry from FourWay Books

Rules for Poetry Contest:
- Deadline for submissions by March 1, 2023 by 11:59 pm
- Only undergraduates at Mississippi State University are eligible to enter
- All poems submitted should be original and unpublished
- No more than 80 lines a poem
- 1 poem per person
- All entries should be submitted to Libraries Poetry Month Committee (poetry@library.msstate.edu )
- Label email with the subject line “MSU Poetry Contest 2023 Entry”
- Submit poem in a Microsoft Word document (Google Documents or PDF's will not be accepted and disqualified from entry)
- Attached signed release form for publication in The Streetcar
Poems will be judged through a blind process.
