Mississippi State University Libraries and the Cotesworth Culture and Heritage Center are continuing their “Mississippi Land and Literature” event series with a 2:30 p.m. program Sunday [Oct. 22] in North Carrollton.
Free to all, “The History of Women in Agriculture” is part of a special programming series commemorating the Magnolia State’s rich agrarian and literary heritage. MSU’s Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine also is a sponsor of the official bicentennial project, made possible by a grant from the Mississippi Humanities Council, with support from the Mississippi Development Authority.
“Much of Mississippi’s rich cultural heritage can be traced to our agrarian roots,” said Sarah McCullough, MSU Libraries coordinator of cultural heritage projects. “Women have played a vital role in this heritage, and their stories are part of Mississippi’s story.”
During the event, former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Espy and Eupora farmer Cala Tabb will share their insight with attendees. Tabb also will read from Mary Mann Hamilton’s “Trials of the Earth: The True Story of A Pioneer Woman” (Little, Brown and Company, July 2016).

To visit the Cotesworth Culture and Heritage Center, take Highway 82 and exit onto Highway 17 into Carrollton. From the square, follow the signs to the center, which is located at 6151 Highway 17 in North Carrollton.
