2025 Undergraduate Poetry Contest

First Place - Burnt Banana Bread by Evelin Aguilar

Jo Aguilar is a third year Architecture student from Pearl, Mississippi, double minoring in Creative Writing and Historical Preservation. She loves the cross disciplinary work that comes with the College or Architecture, Art, and Design and finds herself surrounded by likeminded creatives who help her grow as a poet and architect.  

Second Place - Clemency by Haylee Morman

Haylee Morman is a senior English major pursuing the Cursus Honorum and with minors in Creative Writing and TESOL. After graduating this May, she will be attending the University of North Carolina - Wilmington in pursuit of a Master's in Fine Arts on the Fiction track. 

Third Place - Spring Kitten by Kamree Howard

Kamree Howard is from Ellisville, MS and is currently a sophomore here at MSU. She is majoring in Psychology, minoring in Creative Writing, and working on earning her Trauma-Informed Child Advocacy Certificate. She enjoys writing, crocheting, drawing, and playing with her pet gerbil Goose.
