In Digital Commons, each field has a field label (which can be customized), a field name (which can't be customized for native Digital Commons fields), and a DC mapping. The field name is what comes with the downloaded spreadsheet. It may not match the field label that we've requested for that field. You can refer to your crosswalks or simply insert a row and label columns with your preferred field label (deleting it before final re-upload).

Whether uploading new content or revising existing metadata, the Title field must always be present, and must be the very first column of the spreadsheet. When revising, the 4 gray "system fields" (calc_url, context_key, issue, ctmtime) must be present and must be the last 4 columns in the spreadsheet. Any other columns can be moved around between those, or deleted if they're not needed.

If you do not need a field, it is safe to delete it, with a few exceptions.

• All required fields must be present and have values.
• The title field must always be present and at the very left column of the spreadsheet.
• The 4 gray "system fields" on the right (calc_url, context_key, issue, ctmtime) must remain the last 4 columns.
