Mendeley is a reference manager that allows you to create a personal database of references related to your research, and it allows you to insert citation into Word using any one of hundreds of citation styles. If you are collaborating with other researchers, Mendeley allows you to share references.
There is a free version of Mendeley that anyone can sign up for. However, MSU faculty, staff, and students now have access to Mendeley Institutional Edition, which provides more stoarge space for PDFs and more functionality.
Note: Mendley is not currently compatible with Mac OS 10.12 (Sierra). Click herefor more information.
To access the Institutional Edition of Mendeley, be sure to register with your MSU email address. If you already have a Mendeley account, you can simply change the email address in your account settings.
Once you have registered or changed your email address, click on Groups and search for "Mississippi State University." Click on the group and you will see a "Join This Group" button.
Use the Mendeley Desktop to build and organize your collection of references and documents, which you can sync with the web and mobile versions. Drag & drop PDF files into the Desktop to instantly create references. Annotate PDFs with highlights and sticky notes as you read them.
Adding the Web Importer to your favorite web browser makes it easy to import references and documents from academic databases.
Install the Citation Plugin
The plugin allows you to insert citations and bibliographies into your Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, or BibTeX document. Look for the Install link in the Tools menu of Mendeley Desktop.
The following YouTube video (published in 2014) provides an overview of how to get started with Mendley. To access the Institutional Edition of Mendley, be sure to register with your MSU email address and join the "Mississippi State University" group on Mendeley.
