Library Resources During the Coronavirus Crisis

How to use your library during the COVID-19 crisis.

Get access to computers and internet

The Computer Commons lab in Mitchell Memorial Library has 90 computers (spaced out to encourage social distancing) with printing capabilities. Only 10 users will be allowed in the lab at a time.

4/3/2020: The lab will be closed after 4/3/2020. If you need a computer, checkout one from the Library's Digital Media Center. Pick up will still be available during the shelter in place. Laptops can be mailed as well.

Get books from the library

4/3/2020: Due to the Governor's Shelter in Place order, we will be limited in what can be provided from the Library collection and Interlibrary loan services. Mail will be checked once per week rather than daily. Books received for ILL will be mailed to the patron. We will be able to continue processing requests for articles but please understand fewer libraries are providing services so it may be difficult to obtain the materials. Once per week we will pull holds that have been placed on MSU Library materials.

Request materials by placing a hold in the Online Catalog or submitting an Interlibrary Loan request.

Receive materials
  • In person:
Come to the Computer Commons Lab in Mitchell Memorial Library. Call the Access Services desk at (662) 325-7668, and a staff member will come to Computer Commons to bring you the materials.
  • After 4/3/2020 all materials will have to be mailed to the patron.
  • By mail:
We will mail books to students and faculty free of charge. (Recipients must pay for return postage.)
Return materials
  • In person:
To return books without coming into Mitchell Memorial Library, use our Book Drop. One is located outside the front doors on the Drill Field and the other is in the parking lot behind the Swalm Engineering building (see a map).
  • By mail:
    Mississippi State University Libraries
    ATTN: Access Services
    395 Hardy Rd.
    Mississippi State, MS 39762-5408

Get books from other libraries

Please continue to place requests for materials not found within the MSU Libraries collection. We will try to get what you need. We believe it will be easier to get photocopies of materials rather than hard copies of books. Courier service has been suspended for many of our consortial libraries, so there may be delays in receiving physical items.

  • Priorities for both physical and electronic copies will be placed on class assignment needs.

Get copies of library materials

If you need copies of materials found in the MSU Libraries, place an ILL request and we will scan and send you chapters from books and journal articles in PDF format, free of charge.

Get copies of primary source materials

As of 4/3/2020, Special Collections, the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library, the Congressional and Political Research Center, and the Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana can no longer make copies of materials for patrons.

If you need to use materials from these areas, check Digital Collections first! We have digitized thousands of diaries, correspondence, ledgers, photographs, transcripts, sheet music, and other unique materials representing selected holdings from Special Collections.

Check out equipment

Laptops are available for checkout while supplies last - check one out, pick it up during specific hours, or have it mailed to you. Reserve a laptop online at Further instructions will follow in your confirmation email.
