Mendeley

This guide provides on overview of how to use Mendeley to create a personal database of references that can be inserted into documents created with Word.

Create Backup

Your Mendeley library references are stored in the cloud. When you are connected to the Internet, references saved in your Mendeley Desktop and the Web version are synchronized. However, to avoid risks (such as your Mendeley library crashed or you have to switch from using the Institutional edition of Mendeley to the Basic edition, etc.), it is critical that you create a backup of your Mendeley library. You may want to save the backup in a separate device.

To create backup, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Help tab on the top of the Mendeley Desktop toolbar.

  2. Choose Create Backup from the drop-down list. A single zip file will be created as your Mendeley backup file.

Restore Backup

To restore backup, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Help tab on the top of the Mendeley Desktop toolbar.

  2. Choose Restore Backup from the drop-down list, then Other.

  3. Select the file you want to restore and your Mendeley library will be restored.
