The MSU Libraries' Scholarly Communication Initiative rolled out in 2015 to support Open Access, Author Rights, Open Education Resources, Copyright, Data Management, and digital preservation with an Institutional Repository.
The Open Educational Resources (OER) Committee was added in July 2015 and began meeting in Fall 2015. They will be taking an educational versus advocacy role of OERs on campus, developing in-house training, and piloting University-wide workshops in Fall 2016. This aspect of the Scholarly Communication Initiative is primarily student driven, with representation and leadership from student associations. Additionally, the committee has been conducting tailored outreach to various colleges and departments on campus, as perspectives on OERs different among our various constituents.
The committee will focus on open educational resources and how they impact the success and retention of MSU students. The committee will work with the student community to explore alternate textbook adoption and develop a plan for educating the University community on OER initiatives. The committee will also explore opportunities to increase the awareness of OERs through the campus community. This Committee is a part of the Scholarly Communication project.
