GIS Software

If you want to install the ArcGIS software on a university-owned computer: See the System Requirements of ArcGIS 10.4.1

MSU has a site license for Esri Software (for university-owned machines only). A copy of the software can be requested from MSU ITS.

The Instructional Media Center

GIS software is available in the Digital Media Center. The IMC Lab features state of the art hardware and software, in an environment conducive to individual or group project work, staffed by professionals and highly-trained  lab assistants.

Open Source GIS Software

Popular open source GIS applications for the desktop include GRASS and QGIS. These applications are free to download and use.
