About This Guide

This guide provides information from Mississippi and federal agencies, state research centers and news sources concerning the Deepwater Horizon/BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 and its effect on the state of Mississippi. Events surrounding this incident are still unfolding, and the extent of the impact of the spill on the state, its economy and agriculture, and its residents has yet to be determined. Various established research groups and state agencies have gathered data and have begun in-depth studies of the spill and its aftermath. Across the Gulf states new commissions and research teams have formed to study the impact of the oil spill, and their work is only just beginning.
