Here are a few sources that provide access to data sets within the social sciences. While there are a number of fee-based or subscription data sets, only free resources are listed below. Note that meta sites or search engines may include fee-based resources.

Henry A. Murray Research Archive
Quantitative and qualitative research data maintained by the Institute of Quantitative Social Science at Harvard University.
NBER (National Economic Research Bureau) Data Sets
Data sets associated with NBER working papers.
Roper Center Public Opinion Archives
Data archives available at the Roper Center, University of Connecticut.
SSDS Social Science Data Collection
Data archive maintained by Stanford University. Provides access to social science data developed by the Standford research community. Users must set up a profile to access the system.
